Burntwood Rugby Club Limited
Trentham RFC
Burntwood ran in 15 tries, 14 of them converted, to overcome a depleted Trentham side. The win means that they take their promotion challenge to the final round of matches this Saturday but they will need to beat Uttoxeter away and then hope that Telford or Stafford slip up in their home fixtures if they are to go up.
Neil Holden led the scoring spree with five tries followed by two each for Josh Shepherd, Ben Holt and Lloyd Dunet and one each for Alan Mapp, Tom O’Brien, George Neal and Josh Canning.
Aza Dunet landed twelve conversions from thirteen attempts with Neal and Holt adding conversions of their own.
A game Trentham side had led 6-0 courtesy of two penalty goals but the hosts scored 77 points before the visitors scored the first of their two converted tries in the final quarter.
The only down side for Sean Latham’s team was an early red card for Ross Bedworth following a brief fracas when the score was 7-6.
Telford 2nds went to the top of the Staffs Reserve League Division One after beating Russ Palmer’s second team 62-3.
Whilst the 1st XV are at Uttoxeter, the 2nd XV are due to host Longton 2nds for their final outing of the season.
